OCI stands for Overseas Citizenship of India. The OCI card is a form of long-term visa that allows foreign nationals of Indian origin to live and work in India indefinitely. They are exempted from reporting to the local police authorities for any length of stay in India. OCI cardholders also have parity with non-resident Indians (NRIs) in financial, economic, and educational matters, with some exceptions.
Restrictions: While the OCI card provides significant benefits, it does come with a few restrictions. OCI cardholders are not eligible to vote, hold certain public offices, or acquire agricultural or plantation properties in India. Additionally, they are not eligible for government employment in India.

The application involves submitting the required documents, including proof of Indian origin, and photographs, and paying the prescribed fee.
